Child Inclusive Practitioner in FDR Mediation

A Child Inclusive Practitioner (CIP) is a trained professional who works within the Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) process to ensure children's voices are heard and their needs are considered when making parenting decisions. The CIP engages with children in an age-appropriate way to understand their views, feelings, and experiences, providing valuable insights to parents and mediators. This helps ensure that parenting arrangements are not only in the best interests of the children but also reflect their emotional and developmental needs.

What It Encompasses:

  • Direct Child Engagement: The CIP meets with the children to gather their perspectives in a sensitive, child-friendly manner.

  • Family Focus: While working with children, the CIP also supports parents to understand and respond to their child's needs within the broader family context.

  • Child-Centered Decision Making: The insights from the CIP help guide parents and mediators in making decisions that promote the child's emotional and psychological well-being.

  • Confidentiality: Information shared by the child is kept confidential, with the exception of any safety concerns, ensuring trust and openness.

  • Support for Parents: The CIP helps parents navigate their child’s feelings and perspectives, fostering better communication and cooperation between them.

  • Mediation Support: The CIP may provide a report or direct input during mediation to help parents reach agreements that prioritise their children's welfare.

Our experienced mediators help parents develop comprehensive parenting plans that focus on the well-being of the children and to bring their voices into the mediation process. We guide the parents through the process, ensuring that the parenting plan addresses all necessary aspects to create a stable and supportive environment for the children.
